Silicon metal Uses

Metal silicon is widely used in refractory materials and powder metallurgy industries, and is an excellent antioxidant. Adding metal silicon to the refractory material can first react with oxygen to form a new mineral phase to close the pores, increase the density, prevent the penetration of slag and iron, and improve the high temperature resistance, wear resistance and oxidation resistance of the product. Therefore, it is widely used in refractory materials such as steelmaking furnaces and kilns. Silicon metal can be used as non-ferrous alloy additive and silicon steel alloy agent in metallurgical casting industry, so as to improve the hardenability of steel. Metal silicon can also be used as a reducing agent for some metals, for new ceramic alloys, etc.

Silicone plastics, for example, are excellent waterproof coating materials. Spraying silicone on the four walls of the underground railway can solve the problem of water seepage. On the exterior of the sculpture, a thin layer of silicone plastic can prevent moss from growing, and resist wind, rain and weathering.
